About the HTN

The Heterogeneous Telescope Networks Consortium represents a number of major research groups in the field of robotic telescopes. The organisation has three primary aims:

  • Interoperability between robotic telescope networks
  • Interoperability with the Virtual Observatory (http://www.ivoa.net) for event notification
  • Establishment of an e-market for the exchange of telescope time

Initial funding for the consortium and the first HTN Workshop was provided as part of an EPSRC (http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/) grant for "Links to International e-Science Sister Projects", which was obtained in a joint proposal between the eSTAR and Robonet-1.0 Projects in the United Kingdom, the MONET Project in Germany and the RAPTOR (Los Alamos National Laboratory) and SGM (NASA Advanced Architectures and Automation Group) Projects in the United States.
